The Sound of Music is a 1965 American musical film directed by Robert Wise and starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer.
The movie version was filmed on location in Salzburg, Austria and Bavaria in Southern Germany, and also at the 20th Century Fox Studios in California. It was photographed in 70mm  Todd-AO by Ted D. McCord.
It won a total of five Academy Awards including Best Picture in  1965 and is one of the most popular musicals ever produced. The cast album was nominated  for a Grammy Award for Album of the Year.
Adjusted for inflation, it made $1.046 billion domestically (at 2010 prices) (Abour Rs 4700  Crores) , putting it third on the list of all-time inflation-adjusted box office hits, behind Gone with  the Wind and Star Wars.[3] In 2001, The United States Library of Congress selected the film for  preservation in the National  Film Registry as it was deemed "culturally, historically, or  aesthetically significant".

The hills are alive with the sound of music
With songs they have sung for a thousand years
The hills fill my heart with the sound of music
My heart wants to sing every song it hears

My heart wants to beat like the wings of the birds
that rise from the lake to the trees
My heart wants to sigh like a chime that flies
from a church on a breeze
To laugh like a brook when it trips and falls over stones on its way
To sing through the night like a lark who is learning to pray

I go to the hills when my heart is lonely
I know I will hear what I've heard before
My heart will be blessed with the sound of music
And I'll sing once more

"Edelweiss" is a show tune from the 1959 Rodgers and Hammerstein musical The Sound of Music.
It is named after the edelweiss, a white flower found high in the Alps.
This song turned out to be one of the most beloved songs in the musical, and also one of the  best-loved songs of Rodgers and Hammerstein.
This song was the last song that Rodgers and Hammerstein wrote together; Hammerstein  was suffering from stomach cancer, which would take his life nine months after The Sound of  Music opened on Broadway.

Edelweiss, edelweiss
Ev'ry morning you greet me
Small and white
Clean and bright
You look happy to meet me

Blossom of snow
May you bloom and grow
Bloom and grow forever
Edelweiss, edelweiss
Bless my homeland forever

The Captain, Maria, and Children:

Small and white
Clean and bright
You look happy to meet me

Blossom of snow
May you bloom and grow
Bloom and grow forever
Edelweiss, edelweiss
Bless my homeland forever

(4) MY FAVOURITE THINGS

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things

Cream colored ponies and crisp apple streudels
Doorbells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings
These are a few of my favorite things

Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes
Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes
Silver white winters that melt into springs
These are a few of my favorite things

When the dog bites
When the bee stings
When I'm feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don't feel so bad
